National Mint Julep Day is celebrated annually on May 30. This holiday is dedicated to the classic Southern cocktail that combines bourbon, mint, sugar, and water, served over ice in a silver or pewter cup. The julep has become a symbol of Southern hospitality and has been the official drink of the Kentucky Derby since 1938.

History of the cocktail
The history of the mint julep dates back to the 18th century. Originally, it was used as a medicinal remedy to relieve stomach ailments. In 1803, the drink was first mentioned in print when American Senator Henry Clay introduced it at the Round Robin Bar in Washington, D.C. Since then, the julep has become a popular drink in the American South, especially in Kentucky.
